Turquoise and light brown; neon yellow and army green; teal and red. Do these colors “go” together? Just check out the gear from TOPO Designs – and you’ll see they are… oh, so right together.

TOPO Designs’ bright color combinations and clean lines come from the minds of founders Jedd Rose and Mark Hansen. Growing up with hand-me-downs, they became enamored with the simplicity, functionality, and aesthetics of their parent’s retro outdoor gear. Drawing from the inspiration of their well-worn bags – they started TOPO Designs from Rose’s Fort Collins basement in 2008. While they were still working from those subterranean digs – their clean, minimal bag design was featured in The New York Times.

Since expanding production and…moving out of the basement, they have been featured by the likes of Outside Magazine, Fast Company, Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Men's Journal, Monocle, and so much more. Despite the growth, they have stayed true to their roots – simple and locally-made. All TOPO products are made here, in the US, primarily in a LEED-certified building near Denver.

"Initially the whole idea was to bring back…simplicity to outdoor gear. So instead of talking about how tech things are and what fabric they're made out of and how high you can climb with them, we're more about the simplicity around it and focusing on using a nice, simple product that compliments a simple lifestyle.” - founder Jedd Rose.

Purchasing a TOPO Design is money well-spent – as not only will you have a killer accessory upping your awesomeness, but you can also weather a storm, hike a mountain, go camping, carry your books to class, etc etc – but more importantly you’re supporting a super great company and the US of A.

Wedding and Gift Registries Now Available

We hear it all the time --- "I wish you offered gift registries!!"

Guess what? It's now a reality. You can create a gift registry for your guests easily right on our website.

    Here's the process:

    1. Create an account by clicking here
    2. Look for a confirmation email in your inbox, click the link in that email.
    3. Once back on our website, click "Registry" in upper right.
    4. Choose "Create a Registry" and fill out address, title of registry, etc.
    5. Next, click on "Click here to begin browsing to add products to this registry" at the bottom of that page. Here's also a specific collection of Wedding Gifts we have created.

    6. As you browse through the site and land on product pages, a dropdown will appear similar to below, and you can edit the number to add to registry.

    7. To share a link to your registry on your wedding website or by email, simply share this link: and guests can click on "find a registry."

    8. Working similarly to any other registry, once a guest purchases an item from the online registry, it will be removed from the options for future guests. If a guest purchases an item in the bricks and mortar store, please make sure that they note to our employees that this needs to be removed from the wedding registry online and we will manually remove it.

We are so excited to be offering this service! We know that our customers are often frustrated that there aren't many local options for gift registries, so thank you for being patient!

If you have any issues or questions, please don't hesitate to email us at or give us a call at 802.497.0100.

So... We have some BIG NEWS!

We've outgrown our britches and Common Deer is moving. Sadly this means we have to leave our vintage digs in Shelburne. Luckily, we've found an exciting new spot in Burlington at 210 College Street across the street from My Little Cupcake and Stone Soup.

With our Burlington move comes the ability to showcase even more artisans and companies - helping us spread the mission of supporting USA-made and small batch production to a wider audience.

We cannot contain our enthusiasm for the new space and the opportunities it will bring.  We hope you join us in the excitement.

We thank everyone that has supported us throughout our first year and a half of business.
Common Deer would not be what it is today without you.

    Our Shelburne doors close today.
Our College Street doors will open mid-July.
    Stay tuned for more updates!

    Thank you,
Sharon and the Common Deer Team

    Hello World!

It has certainly been an eventful month! Earlier this month, we opened our store in Shelburne. In standard rapid fire form – here’s the launch of our online shop –
After roughly a year in the making - hunting down amazing products with great back stories - Common Deer is finally alive and kicking. “Super stoked” – doesn’t begin to cover it!
Common Deer focuses on small batch production, USA-made products, supporting small artisans and designers, and re-furbished vintage items. Learn more about us by checking out this page.
We look forward to growing and evolving – and appreciate your business as we work out the kinks. Be a deer and bear with us (by the way we love puns).
Common Deer believes that life is better with a bit of character. Since our name is a play on the nautical term, commandeer – we believe that to “Common Deer” something is to make something your own by embracing the story behind each purchase and gift.
Help us grow by spreading the word! We appreciate it.
    Happy Hunting!
